What came in

A renovation and building company from the UK came in with a Wix site that carried little beyond contact details. It ran on a monthly subscription for something the owner barely touched, because editing it was awkward enough that nobody bothered.

What I built

The offer was split into its own services: loft conversions and extensions, window and door fitting, plastering, painting and interior finishing, and tiling. A gallery of recent jobs sits alongside them. Services and completed jobs are separate content types, so the owner adds a new job from a phone without going back to me.

What changed

Search rankings improved, because the code carries far more useful markup than the previous site builder gave it. The monthly subscription is gone; the company now pays for hosting and a domain instead. There was so little content to begin with that nothing was lost in the move.

Worth knowing

The job also produced the company’s logo. For a one-person building firm, a mark like that goes on the van, the work clothes and the quotes, so it has to hold up in print as well as on screen. The site went live in winter 2023 and I still maintain it.
